Just a quick note to relay a fascinating resource for better understanding the sheer gravity of climate and natural events, as they have impacted human habitation:  The aerial images from Maxar Digital Globe.  Their web page includes stunning pre-event and post-event satellite photos from dozens of affected locations each year, like these from California:
